Introducing the Rasmussen Reports Immigration Index
Immigration will be central to next year’s presidential election, and Rasmussen Reports has conceived its Rasmussen Reports Immigration Index as a barometer of voter attitudes on this critical issue.
The Index is based on a series of questions designed to determine whether voters in this country want an immigration system that encourages more immigration to the United States or a system that reduces the level of immigration here.
Crosstabs and topline responses are also available to the public.
The Immigration Index will be updated every Tuesday at noon Eastern.

The Index is made up of 10 questions focused on the following topics:
More/Less Authorized Immigration
Easier/Harder Foreign Labor Visas
Tighter/Looser Enforcement
Yes/No Legalizing Those Currently in the Country Illegally
Faster/Slower Population Growth.

The baseline survey for the Index of 2,500 Likely Voters was conducted December 2-6, 2019. Subsequent surveys will be conducted each week over five nights. The resulting weekly sample will be of 1,250 Likely Voters or 250 Likely Voters per night.
All surveys will be compared to the baseline which will be given an index of 100. A weekly index number over 100 will indicate growing support for a more expansive immigration system. A weekly index number falling below 100 will indicate increased support for a more restrictive immigration system.
The national telephone survey of 2,500 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports from December 2-6, 2019. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 2 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
