Public School Perception Improves
Most Americans don’t have a good estimate of the nation’s public schools, but fewer now rate them as doing a poor job.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that only 10% of American Adults rate the performance of public schools in America today as excellent. Twenty-five percent (25%) rate America’s schools good, 31% rate them fair and 30% give public schools a poor rating. However, that’s an improvement from a year ago, when only 30% rated public schools good or excellent and 35% said they were doing a poor job. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,333 American Adults was conducted on August 6-7 and 10, 2025 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
