Voters Have an Unfavorable View of the EPA

Fewer voters than ever have a favorable opinion of the Environmental Protection Agency, and a plurality say that its regulations and actions hurt the economy. 

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 32% of Likely U.S. Voters have a favorable opinion of the EPA, the lowest finding in the three years the question has been asked. Forty percent (40%) view the agency unfavorably, unchanged from June. Twenty-eight percent (28%) are undecided, the highest finding to date. (To see survey question wording, click here).

Generic Congressional Ballot: Republicans 40%, Democrats 39%

Republicans continue to hold a slight lead on the Generic Congressional Ballot.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending December 21 finds that 40% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Republican candidate in their district's congressional race if the election were held today, while 39% would choose the Democrat.

Voters Remain Strongly Pro-Choice When It Comes To Health Insurance

Most voters continue to hold a negative opinion of Obamacare and remain committed to the belief that consumers should have choices when it comes to health insurance. They also still strongly belief employers and individuals should be able to buy health insurance across state lines.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 42% of Likely U.S. Voters now have at least a somewhat favorable opinion of the national health care law, while 53% view it unfavorably. These findings are generally consistent with surveys since early 2013 and include 17% with a Very Favorable opinion and 38% with a Very Unfavorable one. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Christmas comes but once a year -- but usually not accompanied by so much big news.

More Voters View U.S. Economy As Fair

Voters are more positive about the fairness of the U.S. economy than they’ve been all year, although most continue to see it as unfair. They also continue to place high importance on making the system provide economic opportunity to all.

Forty-four percent (44%) of Likely U.S. Voters now view the U.S. economy as at least somewhat fair, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Fifty-three percent (53%), however, think it is not fair. This includes just six percent (6%) who think the economy is Very Fair and 19% who say it is Not At All Fair. Twenty-five percent (25%) of Likely U.S. Voters think the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending December 14. 

This finding is down one point from the previous week. The number of voters who think the country is on the right course has now ranged from 23% to 27% nearly every week since early June and has been below 30% most weeks since June of last year.

Most Still Expect Health Care System to Suffer Under Obamacare

Voters still strongly approve of the health care they are getting, but most also remain convinced that it will get worse under the new national health care law.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 78% of Likely U.S. Voters rate the quality of health care they now receive as good or excellent. Only five percent (5%) consider that care to be poor. (To see survey question wording, click here).

Twenty six percent (26%) of Likely U.S. Voters think the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey for the week ending December 7. 

This finding is up one point from the previous week. The number of voters who think the country is on the right course has now ranged from 23% to 27% nearly every week since early June and has been below 30% most weeks since June of last year.

Voters Still Aren’t Thrilled With Public Schools

Voters continue to give mediocre reviews to America’s public schools and remain strongly pro-choice when it comes to things like uniforms, academic calendars and school prayer.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 26% of Likely U.S. Voters rate the performance of public schools as good or excellent. Thirty-four percent (34%) give public schools poor marks. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Voters Remain Skeptical of Obamacare’s Costs

Stupid or not, most voters continue to believe the new national health care law will cost the government more than projected and will push up health care costs for all Americans.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 44% of Likely U.S. Voters have a favorable opinion of the health care law, while 52% view it unfavorably. It’s often been said that there are two or more Americas within the fabric of this great nation. Racially, that’s certainly true.

36% Give Obama Positive Marks for His Immigration Efforts

Half of U.S. voters oppose President Obama’s new plan to protect up to five million illegal immigrants from deportation, and nearly the same number give him poor marks for his handling of immigration issues. But positive ratings for the president on immigration are the highest they’ve been since January.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 36% now give the president good or excellent ratings for his handling of issues related to immigration. That’s up from 31% last month and ties the highest positive rating of the year reached in late January Forty-eight percent (48%) still say the president is doing a poor job in this area, in line with findings over the past several months. Rasmussen Employment Index Hits Six-Year High

The Rasmussen Employment Index which measures worker confidence reached a six-year high in November.

At 102.4, worker confidence is up three points from 99.4 in October and up one point from the previous high of 101.2 in August. The index fell to a recent low of 81.2 in October 2013 but gained steadily after that. After the Wall Street meltdown in the fall of 2008, the index fell dramatically, hitting an all-time low of 57.8 in July 2009.

Obama Full-Month Approval Steady for Third Month in a Row

When tracking President Obama’s job approval on a daily basis, people sometimes get so caught up in the day-to-day fluctuations that they miss the bigger picture. To look at the longer-term trends, Rasmussen Reports compiles the numbers on a full-month basis, and the results can be seen in the graphics below.  

While his party took a shellacking at the polls in early November, the president’s monthly job approval held steady at 47% for the third month in a row, showing no change from September and October. It's up two points from his two-year low of 45% reached in November 2013 during the troubled rollout period for the new national health care law. Obama’s approval rating hit a year-to-date high of 49% in February and May.

Daily tracking results are collected via telephone surveys of 500 likely voters per night. The monthly numbers in this article are based on approximately 15,000 interviews each month with likely voters. Obamacare – Back from the Brink of Repeal?

Most voters for the first time want Congress to fix the new national health care law rather than repeal it.

Given the problems with the new law, 30% of Likely U.S. Voters still think Congress should repeal it entirely and start over again. But a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 52% prefer instead that Congress go through the law piece by piece and improve it. Just 13% want to leave the law as is.
